How it works?

This injectable poly-L-lactic acid product works by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production to replace lost collagen. Collagen is a fibrous protein that gives support to the structure of the skin. Collagen also supports hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin to retain moisture, and elastin, which helps to maintain firm, tight skin. Sculptra provides a range of benefits for your skin including long-lasting skin tightening. You will get smooth and firm skin from the induction of collagen, a component of the skin that rebuilds and heals the skin while increasing its elasticity.

How long does it take to work?

Because Sculptra stimulates your own body to produce collagen, this process takes time, usually about 6 weeks, but you continue to see the improvement taking place for about 2 years.

What are the potential risks and side effects?

The side effects from Sculptra a usually very mild and occur rarely. You may experience some bruising, along with mild swelling and redness. There is always the risk of infection with any cosmetic injectable treatment.

Who is not suitable for this treatment?

This treatment is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also contraindicated for patients with auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and Lupus.

How many vials of Sculptra will I need?

In general, patients require a vial of Sculptra per decade of their age. For example, a 60 year old would need 6 vials to augment sunken, hollow cheeks or correct severe volume loss in the chin region. A 45 year old would only need 4.5 vials of poly-L=lactic acid to smooth deep age-related wrinkles.

You must follow the 5-5-5 rule, which is that you must massage your face 5 times a day for 5 minutes at a time for 5 days after your treatment. This helps disperse the Sculptra particles smoothly and evenly under the skin. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.
